The Horse's Neck: the perfect thirst-quenching cocktail

When we talk about a true American classic, the Horse's Neck is certainly not to be missed. It is a refreshing long drink and the ideal thirst-quenching cocktail on a summer day.

The Horse's Neck dates back to the 1800s and began as a mocktail based on bitters and ginger ale. In 1900, the Horse's Neck became very popular as "Horse's Neck with a Kick." To the mocktail was added bourbon whiskey or cognac, thus the kick. Eventually, bourbon became the liquor of choice for this cocktail.

Craftails Cocktails | Horse's Neck

It's in a name

This Cooler made up of lemon, bourbon, angostura bitters and ginger ale does exactly what it was made for - quench thirst on a beautiful summer day.

The Horse's Neck is typically garnished with a spiral of lemon. This is meant to give the idea of a horse's neck and has become very popular over time. We at Craftails recommend simply adding a slice of lemon (fresh or dried) and a sprig of mint as a garnish.

Mint is a nice addition to the flavors of the bourbon and ginger. With every sip you get the aroma and fresh mint through, a sweet and tangy flavor profile on your papillae.
